BYD has presented its new electric bus model K9FE to a Chilean government delegation during their recent visit to China. The new electric bus has completed the technical inspection the company localized with Transantiago standard, prior to the upcoming tender for electrified public transportation in Santiago.

In an unprecedented move, BYD and its subsidiary in Chile have completed the process of certification and localization of its BYD K9FE, a new pure electric bus model for the Chilean market, in the framework of the bilateral trade initiative “China-Chile Week 2017”. The milestone was marked with the visit of Chilean government delegation led by Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, former Chilean president and current delegate for Asia to BYD headquarters in Shenzhen for an inspection visit.

The Chilean delegation visiting BYD also included Paola Tapia, minister of Transportation and Telecommunications; Paulina Nazal, vice minister of commerce; and Jorge Heine, ambassador of Chile in China..

Two buses — purchased by Chile’s energy company Enel as part of its strategy to support and boost electrified mobility in the country — will depart to Chile in early September. They will start operating in the Chilean capital at the end of October this year in the hands of Metbus transport operators in regular services for Transantiago. Previously, these vehicles have been certified by the Control and Certification Center of Chile’s Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.

As a world leader in providing sustainable solutions for public transportation, it is significant for BYD to receive the Chilean delegation as yet another country embracing sustainable development in transportation. At present, BYD’s electric vehicles have a footprint in more than 200 cities across 50 countries and regions.
