BYD is transforming the transit industry with its innovative and advanced battery-electric, zero-emission coach and bus vehicles, which was recognized on June 9 at the Coalition for Clean Air’s 2017 California Air Quality Awards. BYD was this year’s chosen recipient for the coveted Corporate Leadership Award in acknowledgement of the company’s partnership with the Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA), which has committed to be the nation’s first all-electric transit fleet.

“BYD knows that battery-electric technology is ready to transform our transportation system, from passenger vehicles to transit coaches, buses, and medium- and heavy-duty vehicles,” said Macy Neshati, senior vice president of BYD Heavy Industries. “We are committed to working with organizations like the Coalition for Clean Air to improve air quality in our communities through zero-emission transportation technologies.”

“BYD is proving that we can and will have a clean air future,” said Dr. Joseph Lyou, president and CEO of the Coalition for Clean Air. “Our award celebrates BYD's partnership with AVTA to create the nation's first all-electric transit bus fleet.”

The Coalition for Clean Air recognizes and awards notable individuals, organizations and companies demonstrating significant contributions to California’s air quality with an annual gala luncheon. Every year, advocacy leaders from government and business attend the event to voice their support for California’s clean air future.
