The Greater Dayton RTA has announced a first-of-its-kind partnership in Ohio between public transit and rideshare services in a new program, RTA Connect.

The program will expand transit opportunities for RTA customers. The agency will hold a press conference to discuss the new program this Thursday, June 1.

At the press conference, RTA leaders will demonstrate how RTA Connect will pair with Lyft rideshare and other local transportation providers to offer customers convenience in booking a trip around their own schedules. RTA will also show off the new RTA Connect Transfer Point shelter in Miamisburg and how RTA Connect signs will look at the stops.

During the first phase of the RTA Connect program, the agency will establish Connect service in the southwest portion of Montgomery County including Farmersville, Germantown and Miamisburg effective June 4. Customers will receive increased access to transportation including mid-day service, nights and weekends. It also gives customers the freedom to plan their trips around their daily schedule.

RTA  customers can conveniently book a trip around their own schedule from designated Connect stops, receive a ride and then connect if necessary to RTA routes 18 & 60 at a transfer point in Miamisburg. From the transfer point, customers can access RTA bus lines to connect them to more destinations throughout Montgomery County. As part of the pilot phase, RTA Connect customers will use a discount code, making their trip with Lyft or another transportation provider free.

How it works - Using Lyft App: RTA Connect offers the convenience for riders to book trips around their schedule. Using the Lyft app at a designated RTA Connect stop, customers will enter the code “Connect937” into the app to book a discounted Lyft trip.

Don’t have a smartphone? Not a problem. Customers can call the RTA Call Center at 937-425-8300 and a representative will assist with booking a trip.

Where RTA Connect takes you: RTA's partners will take customers directly to the RTA transfer point at 1st Street and Central Avenue in Miamisburg. From there, they can connect to more frequent RTA routes.

RTA Connect and accessibility: Customers who require a lift-equipped vehicle may schedule a ride by contacting an RTA Connect Representative at 425-8300.
