More weekend passengers traveled with National Express train operator c2c since autumn began than during any other autumn on record.

The number of people travelling with c2c has increased over 13% on last year for the first five weekends in September and October. So far this autumn, the annual increase peaked at 25% growth on Sunday 25 September.

The fine weather, c2c’s great value fares and new discounts on local attractions for rail passengers are thought to be key factors behind this surge in popularity.

Commercial Director Clare McCaffrey said, “We’ve been heavily promoting both London and Southend as great destinations for local rail passengers in recent months, so it’s great to see so many people have taken up our offers. We’ll continue to promote great local activities and exciting discounts all autumn as part of our “find another you” campaign.”
