The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) will mark a major milestone early next week with 250 million rides taken since the transit agency’s inception in 1979. To celebrate this special occasion, everyone is invited as RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson surprises a lucky designated 250 millionth rider at RTC 4TH Street Station on Monday, July 25th at 11 a.m. All the other passengers on this lucky rider’s bus will also receive free 31-day bus passes.

Additionally, for the rest of the day everyone will be able to ride all RTC transit services for free.

In recent years, the RTC has been providing 8.2 million rides a year. The RTC Rapid line, serving Virginia Street, is the most popular line in the RTC system with roughly 3,800 rides taken on Rapid on a typical weekday. This service will also be expanded in early 2019 to better link the University of Nevada, Reno to downtown and Midtown.

With sale tax revenues increasing as the region grows economically, the RTC Board has also indicated an expansion of bus service is likely in the near future.
