Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA) has announced the election of Cordelia Miller of Bethlehem, PA, as its new Board Chair. Michelle Griffin Young, who had chaired the Board since 2014, presided over the election of Miller at the Authority’s annual meeting at the Renaissance Allentown Hotel.
Miller becomes the first African-American to head the bi-county agency which provides public transportation throughout Lehigh and Northampton Counties. LANTA also manages Carbon County Community Transit.
A native of Bethlehem, Miller has served on the Board since 2008 including a term as vice chair since 2014. Since joining the Authority she has headed the LANtaVan and Special Services Committee. She is a retired Director of Emergency Services for the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. A product of Bethlehem public schools and Northampton Community College, Miller has earned certification from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security. She has been a leader with the St. John African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Bethlehem as well as the Bethlehem Branch of the NCAAP where she holds life membership.
Holly Edinger, director of community and government affairs at Sacred Heart Hospital, will serve as Vice Chair, Beck Bradley, Executive Director at the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission as board secretary; and retired business executive Fred A. Williams as treasurer.
Griffin Young, executive vice president of government & external relations at the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, has served on the LANTA Board since 2009 including her recent term as chair. “Michelle has provided high-quality leadership through a time of significant changes at LANTA,” said Owen O’Neil, LANTA Executive Director. “We look forward to her continued service on the board in the years ahead,” he added.
During her tenure Griffin Young guided LANTA through a management transition after the retirement of long-time executive director Armand Greco to the new leadership under O’Neil. She also led LANTA through the completion of the construction of the Fred A. Williams Easton Intermodal Center as well as many important service improvements.
