Two projects sponsored by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) were honored this week by the 27th Annual California Transportation Foundation (CTF) Awards Program.

Two projects sponsored by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) were honored by the 27th Annual California Transportation Foundation (CTF) Awards Program. MTC’s Vital Signs website was honored with the Public Outreach Award of the Year and Solano County Authority’s Solano Mobility Management Program was honored with the Transit Services Program of the Year.

The Vital Signs website was recognized for its innovative approach to displaying data of the region’s performance on transportation, land use, economic and environmental well-being. Previously, data about the region’s performance was disseminated via printed publications, but Vital Signs represents the agency’s shift to a more accessible and interactive web platform, using narratives thatare not overly technical and data visualizations that are both interactive and customizable to focus a specific county or parameter . The website was developed by MTC, in collaboration agency partners and a Code for America consultant team.

The Solano Mobility Management Program helps anyone who wants to learn how to navigate public transit in a safe and independent manner through personalized one-on-one trainings, group trainings with travel trainers and ambassadors, rider’s guides and a do-it-yourself video online. The one-on-one travel training is specifically for people with disabilities to encourage greater independence and community integration, while focusing on personal community safety at all times. As a project sponsor, MTC designated the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) as Solano County’s Consolidated Transportation Service Agency—leading to the launch of this program—and continues to advise STA and their advisory committee.

The annual CTF awards recognize excellence in California transportation every year, all modes, public and private sector and from all regions of the state. View a full list of winners on their website. CTF is the leading charitable transportation organization in the state, and supports the transportation community with scholarships, career development, transportation forums and financial assistance to those injured on the job and families of fallen transportation workers.
