A leading member of the Illinois General Assembly who once worked as an urban planner will deliver the morning keynote presentation, and a panel comprised of local general managers for ride-sharing services will keynote a lunch time discussion at the 31st Annual Transport Chicago conference June 10 at the UIC Forum.
Transport Chicago brings together more than 250 transportation industry professionals and members of the academic community to share and explore current research and study. Along with the opening and luncheon keynote presentations, the event includes nearly 30 workshops and presentations from leading transportation and academic professionals and a poster session.
“The keynote presenters at the 2016 Transport Chicago will tackle two very relevant issues today: Funding for transportation in Illinois and the evolving ride-share industry,” said Josh Sikich, president of the 2016 Transport Chicago Steering Committee. “And, the balance of the event agenda features sessions from leading state and local transportation decision-makers, planners and representatives from the private sector.”
The morning keynote address will be delivered by Illinois State Representative Al Riley, Assistant Majority Leader, 38th District. Representative Riley, who represents the south Chicago suburbs, has held positions as a planner and educator. During his years in public office he has focused legislative efforts on mass transit, transportation inequities and other issues.
At the luncheon, three ride share executives will participate in a panel discussion on the future of these services in metropolitan Chicago:
- Marco McCottry - Uber, general manager of Illinois and Indiana
- David Katcher - Lyft, general manager of Chicago
- Chris Snyder - Via, general manager of Chicago
One afternoon session, “Ask the Decisionmakers,” will feature a free-flowing discussion by Randy Blankenhorn, Illinois Secretary of Transportation, and Luann Hamilton, Chicago Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner. This year, Transport Chicago also will include a “Wild Card” session, where participants can submit and vote on transportation topics to address.
Other morning and afternoon sessions and workshops will focus on:
- Expanding bus service in metropolitan Chicago.
- The growth of transit oriented development (TOD) projects.
- Enhancements to the area’s bicycle network.
- Options for adoption of autonomous vehicle technology.
- And, many others.
Transport Chicago 2016 will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 10 at the University of Illinois at Chicago Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Rd., Chicago.
Early registration (until May 29) is $75 per person, or $35 for students. Registration is open to all interested parties and includes admission, a continental breakfast, lunch and concluding reception. Rates increase to $95 per person or $50 for students starting May 30 through the day of the event.
