Parsons is pleased to announce that the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has awarded Parsons a contract to design, deliver, integrate, and install an interoperable Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) system for the city’s 6,250 buses and support vehicles that complies with Project 25 (P25), the public safety radio standard. The TETRA system, which has been used extensively in Europe and recently introduced in the United States, combines dispatching and two-way mobile radio capability, offering fast, reliable, and secure data and voice communications.

The 58-month contract calls for maintaining the existing radio operations while retrofitting the fleet with new mobile radios. It also calls for providing 1,250 portable radios and the communications infrastructure to support the new system using 35 radio sites. In addition, the contract allows for three 5-year renewal options to provide maintenance and support services.
