Palm Tran Connection, the paratransit division of Palm Beach County’s public transportation system, has received $381,294 from the state of Florida's Natural Gas Fuel Fleet Vehicle Rebate Program.

As part of a new service contract, Palm Tran Connection purchased 50 new propane-fueled vehicles. The Natural Gas Fuel Fleet Vehicle Rebate Program allows for reimbursement of 50 percent of the cost of the propane upgrade for these vehicles. The new vehicles have been in service for one year.

"Palm Tran is committed to being environmentally-conscientious in delivering transit service to Palm Beach County, home to beautiful waterways and environmentally-sensitive lands.  Energy efficient vehicles provide long-term benefits to the environment and help us to save money in the process." said executive director Clinton B. Forbes.

Palm Tran Connection was honored by the Propane Education & Research Council and Metro Magazine for being among the top fleets in the bus transportation industry in the purchase of these vehicles. The awards recognize public transportation fleets for their commitment to improving the environment and health of their communities by adopting alternative fuels such as propane.
