VTA successfully delivered approximately 9,500 Super Bowl 50 fans to and from Levi's Stadium Sunday, according to updated final passenger counts.
VTA issued the statement, "We would like thank all the passengers who chose VTA, as well as our exceptional operators, maintenance staff, ambassadors, planning team, safety and security staff, partner agencies, and the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee for helping to make service for Super Bowl 50 a great success."
Outbound light rail and bus service from the stadium cleared crowds within an hour after the game ended.
Approximately 60 percent of the passengers on light rail went back to Mountain View to transfer to Caltrain, the same number as made their way to the game that way. Attendees coming from Downtown San Jose had a similarly smooth trip to and from the game.
The San Jose Mercury News reported that VTA and Caltrain customer Kevin Chen called the transit experience “very seamless. We got on the train and it was very orderly," he said. "The planning folks did a great job and they got us onto the train without any pushing or shoving, even though the train was full."
Twitter user Jeremy Trigwell praised the “excellent service at San Jose” minutes after customer Pamela Pope tweeted that VTA was the “best ride to the Super Bowl.”
VTA's mobile ticketing app, EventTIK, enabled Super Bowl attendees to purchase their fare in advance to make riding public transit easy and convenient. Customer Diana George tweeted that the “VTA app is great. You pay for your round trip ahead of time. Show to driver and on the bus you go.”
With a Level One terror threat designation, hundreds of public safety officers, coordinated by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Transit Patrol, safeguarding the VTA system. Among the security detail were K-9 teams from across the country including Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle and Southern California to name a few. The result was, most importantly, a very safe and peaceful trip to the Super Bowl.
