BC Transit has launched its Next Bus Text Information and the updated Transit Info Line. This new SMS system allows transit users to text their Stop ID (located at each bus stop in the top right corner) and route number to 11111 to receive information on the next four buses that are scheduled to arrive at that stop.

“Thanks to this transit tool, people won’t be wondering when the next bus will come — they can find out with a couple of keystrokes,” said Todd Stone, minister of transportation and infrastructure. “BC Transit keeps the customer in mind, knowing that an efficient, convenient transit system is a well-used one.”

“The introduction of Next Bus SMS provides a new opportunity for our customers to conveniently plan their transit trips,” said Manuel Achadinha, president and CEO of BC Transit.

The new system compliments the website feature ‘next bus at this stop’ where riders can find and enter their Stop ID online to receive the same information. Accessed on the BC Transit website, visitors can click on the location they would like to leave from using the Stop ID provided.

BC Transit also has two phone-in options for Next Bus information. Riders can call the Transit Info Line at 250-382-6161 and add their Stop ID at the prompt, or talk to a Customer Service Agent from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays or holidays.

These options are designed to help BC Transit customers plan a seamless transit experience.

This service is currently only available for the Victoria Regional Transit System and will be evaluated before expanding to any other BC Transit systems.
