NVTC Statement on Restoration of Transit Benefit

Dec. 21, 2015

In response to action by the U.S. House and Senate to increase the monthly transit benefit from $130 to $255, NVTC Chairman David F. Snyder issued the following statement:

“Transit riders and our transit systems – including Metrorail, Virginia Railway Express, and local and commuter bus systems – will benefit from the tax bill approved by Congress. Now, transit riders will have the same tax benefits as those who drive and park. The bill, which permanently increases the transit benefit, makes transit more affordable for commuters. It will also increase ridership at a critical time for our transit systems – such as Metro and VRE – and take people off the road. Restoration of the transit benefit has been a priority for the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission. I applaud Congress for its equitable treatment of riders and drivers.”
