Rabbittransit Recognizes International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Dec. 1, 2015

Rabbittransit recognizes the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2015. The day was established in 1992 by the United Nations to promote awareness and support for important issues related to the inclusion of people with disabilities in society. This year’s theme is “Inclusion Matters: Access and Empowerment for People of all Abilities,” which focuses on topics like making communities inclusive and accessible for everyone.

According to the UN, “Evidence shows that when barriers to their inclusion are removed and persons with disabilities are empowered to participate fully in societal life, their entire community benefits.”

Transportation plays a key role in the ability to become an active member of a community and to access opportunities.

Rabbittransit provides nearly 2 million trips a year and is fortunate to have the guidance of the Transportation Partnership on Mobility (TPOM). TPOM is a member citizen committee that advises rabbittransit staff on plans and programs with the goal of improving access to transit services. Interested citizens are encouraged to attend. The next meeting will be held on Feb. 11, at  2 p.m. and will feature an interactive session with the York County Planning Commission pertaining to the 2016 York Fixed Route Transit Development Plan.
