Miami-Dade Transit has been testing a 40-foot electric bus as part of Miami-Dade County’s initiative to seek sustainable energy sources for its bus fleet and to support the community-wide sustainability plan known as GreenPrint.
New technologies, like this one, enable Miami-Dade County to continue to be a leader in energy, fuel and water efficiency. Electric buses run very quietly and produce zero tailpipe emissions, which therefore contribute to reducing Green House Gas emission (GHG) from our transportation sector.
The bus, manufactured by BYD, uses an iron-phosphate battery that allows the bus to travel approximately 155 miles on a single charge.
“We are exploring different options that will produce more eco-friendly, high-performance and affordable alternative energy technology for our bus fleet,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.
