Alstom has finalized its acquisition of Motala Train AB, a Swedish company specialised in refurbishment, heavy maintenance and repair of passenger trains.
Alstom becomes the sole owner of the company, which generates a yearly turnover of around €15 million and employs 73 people, taking Alstom’s workforce to over 350 people in the country.
The premises are mainly located in Motala, south of Stockholm, incorporating 5,600 m² of fully equipped workshops. In 2013, a second depot was established in Västeras, north-west of Stockholm, close to major traffic lanes.
This new asset provides services to Swedish railway operators for the entire refurbishment of their fleet, including the renovation of interiors and upgrades to key technical systems. The refurbishment activity accounts for around 70 percent of the current business. The rest is split between heavy maintenance, including contractual overhauls of trains, crash and damage repair services, including collision or fire damage, and repair work such as welding, electrical, painting or heavy mechanical assembly. The company boasts advanced competencies, especially in welding.
