Moovit Continues Growth

Sept. 25, 2015

Moovit announced its position as the number one public transit app in the world. Over 28 million people across 700 cities in 58 countries now trust Moovit to get them where they're going, more than any other third party public transit app globally, including the transit services offered by Google and Apple (www.moovitapp.com).

Proving the model of scaling local transport services at a global level, Moovit’s growth rate across the world shows no signs of relenting with a new city added every 24 hours thanks to the active community participation adding crowdsourced data.

Moovit’s leadership is powered by its hyper-engaged user communities and supported by its editor platform. This platform lets users map entire transit systems so communities without any readily available public transit information can also benefit from Moovit - no other app empowers its users in this way. This has resulted in impressive user and engagement growth in 2015:

  • Collectively adding over 3 million data points during 2015
  • Global coverage includes nearly 300 metro areas and 80 cities currently unavailable by other transit apps (40 per cent in 2015 and 60 per cent in Q2 of 2015)
  • 20,000 active users comprise Moovit's editor community in more than 100 countries to provide the most transit information
  • Overall, Moovit has impacted 28 million people via its community based projects using the editor platform

“We’ve been continually amazed and encouraged by the extent of user participation around the globe. People are really keen to make a positive difference to their neighbor’s travel experiences, and this altruism is helping build smarter cities with more efficient public transport experiences across the globe,” said Alex Torres, vice president of product marketing, Moovit.
