Digi International Brings Wireless Innovation to Public Transit

July 2, 2015

Digi International is highlighting how its solutions are positively impacting the public transit industry.

Key examples of Digi International implementations include:

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA): Digi solutions are an integral component of SEPTA vehicles’ Positive Train Control (PTC) Communications System. With Digi technologies, SEPTA’s PTC Communications System keeps all locomotives and vehicles connected, relaying PTC data messages and enabling system maintenance, configuration and network management.

Visalia Transit: Digi’s wireless devices affect nearly every aspect of operations including real-time fleet tracking, currency tracking and remote video access.  Additionally, Digi helped to enable offering free Wi-Fi for riders, leading to higher commuter satisfaction.

EMTEST: EMTEST uses Digi as the technological platform for its on-board unit that serves as the main control for an entire vehicle system, spanning ticket sales and control, fleet control and deployment, route information, arrival times, traffic monitoring and transfer information. It also offers secure remote management and Web services capabilities through the cloud.

OEM Technology Solutions: OEM Technology Solutions turned to Digi to wirelessly enable its products to allow vendors and rail operators to gather critical information remotely, including timetable information, train location, train performance metrics and equipment status that encompass video, images, alarms and events. Digi's products allow OEM Technology Solutions to connect controllers to the Internet wirelessly and help train operators limit downtime and improve efficiency. In addition to enabling the transmission of valuable train data, Digi delivers on-board Internet access for passengers, enhancing the customer experience.
