Metro Board members have given the green light to the New Bus Network beginning Aug. 16. Following dozens of community workshops, meetings with elected officials and two public hearings, the Board approved a few minor adjustments to the plan at its regular board meeting June 25.
The network significantly improves the way the Houston region gets around by linking commuters to more destinations seven days a week. It’s all about improved transit options, including more frequent service, simpler routes and better connections.
Metro will also have various meetings with the public to gather information on service after the New Bus Network is implemented.
In other Board action, Metro approved changes to peak hours for HOV/HOT Lanes on IH-45 North, US-59 South and US-290. Beginning Aug. 1, single occupant vehicles will not be allowed in HOV lanes from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Currently the prohibited hours for single occupancy vehicles to access the HOV/HOT Lanes are between 5 - 6 p.m.
Metro's Board has approved providing additional parking spaces at the Grand Parkway Park-and-Ride with long-term plans to build a parking garage.
Board members also approved additional assistance for business owners affected by construction of an overpass along the Harrisburg (Green) Light-Rail Line. During the construction, traffic will be re-routed.
