Changes to Capital Metro Service Start June 7

June 2, 2015

Changes are coming to some Capital Metro bus routes beginning June 7.

The changes are designed to provide more frequent bus service and also expand service, while maintaining system efficiency.

Trip frequency will be increased along five Local routes, a new bus route will begin in the Loyola area, Route 37 will now provide service to the Mueller H-E-B, and Route 271 will be realigned to better serve Del Valle residents.

This June, riders can also pick up Capital Metro’s new System Map on buses, at the Capital Metro Transit Store (located at 209 West 9th Street) or download the PDF version online.

The service changes scheduled to begin Sunday include:

High-Frequency Routes

Routes 7 Duval/Dove Springs, 20 Manor/Riverside, 300 Govalle, 325 Ohlen, 331 Oltorf

Capital Metro announces its new Frequent Transit Network, a system of five high-use routes, now offering weekday and Saturday service more often. On weekdays, Routes 7, 300, 325 & 331 will run every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and every 20 minutes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Route 20 will run every 20 minutes during the same time period. Frequency will also be increased on Routes 7, 300, 325 & 331 to every 20 minutes on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The change will create more reliable bus service and help reduce wait times at stops. Capital Metro would also look at increasing frequency on additional routes in the future.

New Route

237 Northeast Flex

In partnership with the Travis County Commissioner’s Court, Capital Metro will begin service on a new route along Loyola in northeast Austin. The new route will offer stops between the Springdale Shopping Center and the Mobile Loaves and Fishes Community First! Village seven days a week. The Northeast Feeder Route will also connect with Barbara Jordan Elementary; Overton Elementary; the Turner Roberts Recreation Center and the Wentworth, Colony Park and Woodland Hills neighborhoods. A major transfer point will be accessible at the Springdale H-E-B, connecting to Routes 20 Manor/Riverside, 37 Colony Park/Windsor Park and 323 Anderson. The service changes will result in a minor expansion of the MetroAccess ADA service area.

Routing Changes

37 Colony Park/Windsor Park

In order to provide additional transit access to the Mueller H-E-B, Route 37 will be realigned to Berkman Drive and Barbara Jordan Boulevard. Route 37 will stop between Barbara Jordan Boulevard and 51st Street at the current Route 320 St. Johns bus stop location, allowing for easy transfers between routes. Route 37 will also continue to make trips to First Workers, the City of Austin Day Labor Center. As a result of the new extension to Mueller, Capital Metro will make schedule adjustments to the route.

271 Del Valle Flex

Capital Metro will realign Route 271 to Highway 130 and Pearce Lane to better serve Del Valle residents. Capital Metro will maintain service to the three existing stops serving the Del Valle Independent School District. As a result, schedule adjustments will be made to the route.
