OSPT Alliance Webinar to Highlight Value of Open Standards

June 1, 2015

The Open Standard for Public Transport (OSPT) Alliance is hosting a free-to-attend webinar on  June 17, at 5 p.m. CET and June 18, at 10 a.m. CET. The session, entitled "Open Standards in Fare Collection: An Introduction to OSPT Alliance and CIPURSE" will investigate why open standards are needed in the transport ecosystem and explain the benefits they offer over proprietary schemes. The webinar will be delivered by the OSPT Alliance executive director and will also feature OSPT Alliance member, Prokart, presenting its CIPURSE-based "Odin Billet" or "One Ticket" project.

Before exploring the advancing fare management ecosystem, the 40 minute webinar will introduce OSPT Alliance, the motivation behind the creation of CIPURSE and the technical achievements of the association to date. Time will also be spent introducing the CIPURSE certification program, which provides transport authorities and public transport operators with confidence that the products they implement in their solutions are compatible and interoperable with the existing and future fare management market.

The second part of the session will be delivered by Prokart, an automated fare collection (AFC) system operator, based in the Russian city of Perm. The member will discuss why it chose to integrate CIPURSE into its AFC system, "Odin Billet,' built on the Elbius electronic ticketing platform, and explain why it believes that CIPURSE will enable it to provide passengers and transport operators in Perm with a sustainable and interoperable solution for all transportation across the region.

Laurent Cremer, executive director of OSPT Alliance, said, “Following the success of our first technical webinar last year, we felt that it was now important to clarify OSPT Alliance’s role in the industry, demonstrate the achievements we have made to date and showcase how our members are benefiting from integrating CIPURSE into their AFC deployments. I encourage any stakeholder with an interest in AFC particularly in reference to transport to attend the session to understand how OSPT Alliance and its members are helping to create a secure, flexible, interoperable and sustainable global AFC ecosystem.”

The webinar is primarily targeted at transport authorities and operators, as well as system integrators. It will also be of value to card vendors, mobile application suppliers, mobile network operators and consulting firms with a strong focus on transport, mobility and convergence.
