Edmonton Uses Green-Inspired Art for Clean Air Day

May 26, 2015

The city of Edmonton is celebrating Clean Air Day with a creative new twist. Green-inspired art installations will start popping up around Edmonton this week to mark Clean Air Day on June 3.

“The city is very committed to improving Edmonton’s air quality and we are actively working with our regional partners to develop innovative programs to do so,” said Mayor Don Iveson. “These art installations are an original way to engage Edmontonians and illustrate practical things people can do to help improve our air quality.”

Throughout the remainder of May and first week of June, two bikes and one bus stop will be covered in moss and displayed downtown. Moss was chosen because of its ability to absorb air pollution and its positive impact on air quality.

The art installations will be found at three locations.

In addition to the mossy installations, sidewalk chalk art will also be seen throughout the downtown core promoting Clean Air Day. The intent of the campaign leading up to Clean Air Day is to show citizens how easy it is for one person to have a positive impact on our city’s air quality.
