CityBus added a new amenity for riders and visitors thanks to a partnership with the city of Lafayette and Wintek. Free WiFi is now available at CityBus Center, 316 N. 3rd St.— extending the City of Lafayette’s free WiFi on Main St.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer free WiFi for our riders and visitors to CityBus Center,” said Martin Sennett, general manager. “Many of our riders are heading to work or class and WiFi will enable them to check email, read online articles and news and much more while they wait for the bus.”
The service launched April 14.
The city of Lafayette’s information technology director, Andy Milam, is pleased with the success of the program they initially launched in 2012.
“The coverage was originally only on Main St. from 2nd to 9th streets, but last fall of 2014 we added access points at 2nd and South, 3rd and South, 4th and South, and 6th and South,” said Milam. “We have improved the access point at the depot, allowing for faster speed depending on the end users device. We have also added several access points in Columbian Park at Tropicanoe Cove, Memorial Island and the Zoo, as well as near the shelters. The CityBus expansion compliments our efforts to keep the city moving forward.”
“CityBus has taken a progressive approach to customer service by providing greater technology access for their riders,” said Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski. “The city was happy to work with Wintek and CityBus to help further expand upon the free, downtown Wi-Fi initiative that now includes the CityBus Center.”
