On April 10, the Heart of Texas Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) recognized Capital Metro and its President/CEO Linda S. Watson with several awards during the group’s 11th Annual Transportation Gala and Scholarship Fundraiser in Austin.
Capital Metro received the Employer of the Year Award and Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award, while Watson was named WTS Heart of Texas Chapter’s Woman of the Year for 2014.
“We’ve worked hard to make Capital Metro a welcoming environment, full of opportunity and advancement,” said Watson. “To have the respect and admiration of your peers is both an incredible honor and very humbling.”
The Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award honors an individual or organization that works to facilitate professional opportunities for women and minorities, while also promoting diversity and multicultural awareness.
Said Watson, “Capital Metro’s commitment to being all-inclusive is something I’m very proud to say has become a mantra for the agency. We recognize the benefits of having a diverse workforce, and actively celebrate the many different cultures of our employees through special events, which include music, food and the arts.”
The Employer of the Year recognition is awarded to an organization that enhances the transportation industry through its commitment to excellence, has an outstanding record in hiring and promotion at all employment levels, and provides encouragement to women entering the transportation field, including students.
The Woman of the Year recipient is awarded to a leader who has made an outstanding contribution to the transportation industry, while also directly contributing to the advancement of women and minorities through programs and opportunities in the transportation field. Additionally, the honoree is chosen for individual achievements attained throughout her career.
As local award winners, Watson and Capital Metro will be nominated for WTS International Awards.
