The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority has named C. Mikel Oglesby as its deputy executive director, effective immediately.

Oglesby brings almost a quarter of a century of experience in the transit industry to his position, most recently operating Oglesby Consulting LLC, a firm he established to provide transportation expertise to the public and private sectors.

As deputy executive director, Oglesby will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the authority, with oversight of operations, human resources, administration, procurement, marketing, customer service, finance and information technology, engineering and construction, and planning and capital development. He was also responsible for negotiating with outside agencies’ developers and contractors at the direction of the governing board or executive director.

Oglesby brings a diverse transit background developed in both small and large agencies across the U.S.   His leadership experience has included fixed-route bus and para-transit service delivery, both light and heavy rail service and maintenance, taxi cab regulation, ferry boat service, regulation administration, financial planning and budgeting, information systems, government and community affairs.  He is also a noted continuous-improvement strategist and advocate for organizational and employee development.

He worked for the fourth largest multi-modal agency in public transportation, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), rising to the position of assistant general manager.  There, he garnered experience in passenger rail encompassing service contracting and coordinating with a rail provider, Amtrak. The MBTA carries 127,000 weekday riders on 12 lines. In addition, he served as the general manager of SunLine Transit Agency and general manager of ATC Consultants.

Oglesby has been recognized by the Federal Transit Administration as an innovator in the field of green energy and alternative fuel transit vehicles with the development and deployment of the industry’s first hydrogen powered, American Fuel Cell Bus of its kind, and creating a one- of-a-kind Hydrogen Learning Center, via solid public/private partnerships.

Oglesby holds a B.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
