STM Tackles Disruptive Behavior

Feb. 4, 2015

The STM is renewing its efforts to raise awareness among passengers by launching the next phase of its "Riding together – make it better!" campaign, aimed at encouraging people to behave appropriately, thereby ensuring that everyone enjoys safe and uninterrupted transit rides.

Riding the bus and métro means sharing public space with strangers who all share the same purpose: reaching their destination as quickly as possible in a pleasant and safe environment.  However, some transit users behave in a disruptive way, which not only affects the transit experience of other passengers, but can also negatively impact the performance and efficiency of transit service.

In light of this, the STM is renewing its efforts to raise awareness among passengers by launching the next phase of its "Riding together – make it better!" campaign, aimed at encouraging people to behave appropriately, thereby ensuring that everyone enjoys safe and uninterrupted transit rides. The illustrated behaviours are among those that elicit the most comments and complaints.

The campaign will be rolled out on métro station platforms, inside métro cars and buses.

It is worth noting that almost half of all métro service disruptions are passenger-related.
