Topeka Metro has once again partnered with the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library for the Big Read. Topeka Metro buses will be a pickup location for this year’s featured book, “True Grit,” with 400 books to be distributed among Metro’s 12 routes. To celebrate the Big Read kickoff Topeka Metro staff will be dressed in western attire, matching the books theme.
Passengers are encouraged to take a copy of the book to read and then return to the buses for others to read. The Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library will provide programming throughout February to help promote the community reading event.
“We always look forward to the Big Read,” said Susan Duffy, general manager for Topeka Metro. “It’s thrilling to see the community engaging with the book. Our buses are a perfect environment for that interaction, we see people reading on the bus, discussing the book and sharing copies. We love that.”
