As of January, the Montreal Transit Corporation (STM) will undertake work to make available an eleventh metro station with the addition of elevators to the Rosemont station. Indeed, at its last meeting, the board awarded a contract of  $ 10.2 million at the Alta Ltd. Construction firm that will be responsible for the work.

"The STM is committed to continue the accessibility of its network. Rosemont station was chosen considering the configuration that lends itself well to the addition of elevators and strong ridership growth in recent years, "said Chairman of the Board of Directors of the STM Philippe Schnobb.

The work, which will continue until July 2016 consist primarily of:

  • The expansion of the shrine
  • The addition of three lifts
  • Adding a natural ventilation shaft above the kiosk
  • The relocation of the existing natural ventilation wells
  • The relocation of trade

Recall that the metro network currently has seven stations accessible or Berri-UQAM, Côte-Vertu, Lionel-Groulx, Henri-Bourassa, Cartier, Concorde and Montmorency, and that work is currently underway at the Champ de Mars, Jean-Talon and Snowdon, particularly in order to provide the elevators.

Criteria for deployment lifts

Various criteria influence the order of processing stations. Correspondence stations were first carried out in priority, and are all about to be completed. The near schools or health care institutions are also factors taken into consideration. Finally, the technical difficulties associated with each of the sites affect the ability of the STM to deploy the sites.

Commissioned in October 1966 Rosemont station annually hosts nearly 3 million entrants.

Work at the Rosemont station are made as part of Phase III of the Reno-Systems program is funded 75 percent by the Ministry of Transportation of Quebec.
