Michael Cheroutes, director of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s High Performance Transportation Enterprise (HPTE) was the recipient of the 2014 Infrastructure Leader of the Year Award at the 6th North American Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 28.  The award is presented annually to visionaries who have shown extraordinary vision and innovation in advancing strategic infrastructure.  The award presentation preceded remarks by Vice President Joe Biden, who provided the opening keynote for the Infrastructure Leadership Forum.

Cheroutes led the HPTE and CDOT effort on the US 36 BRT/Managed Lane project, viewed nationally as a model for combining roadway and transit improvements.  Before taking over the leadership of the HPTE in 2010, he was an attorney in private practice, with over forty years of government and project finance experience. His legal experience includes public private partnerships for infrastructure projects in this country and overseas, the groundbreaking financings for the E-470 and NW Parkway toll roads, and for the construction of Denver International Airport.

“Mike is a visionary public servant who has vigorously advanced transportation in Colorado and the US.  We are honored to have benefited from his leadership and proud to recognize him with this award.” said CG/LA President and CEO, Norman Anderson.
