DC: Transit Police Arrest Suspect for Exposing Himself to 8-Year-Old Girl

Metro Transit Police July 31 arrested Mario AMARO, 48, of Rockville, Md. on charges of indecent exposure.

Amaro is alleged to have exposed himself to an 8-year-old girl seated next to him aboard a Metrobus on July 9. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. aboard a Y8 bus that was en route to Silver Spring Station.

The incident was reported to Metro Transit Police by the girl's mother. Transit Police immediately launched an investigation.

Two days later, the 8-year-old victim was traveling on the same bus route with her mother when she saw the suspect again and pointed him out. The mother took a picture of the suspect and provided it to Metro Transit Police detectives, who in turn, queried the Maryland Sex Offender Registry. Amaro was identified as a suspect based on the photo and physical descriptions provided by the mother.

The victim was able to positively identify Amaro in a photo array.

Amaro was arrested by the Metro Transit Police Warrant Squad at his residence this morning and subsequently identified himself as the person in the mother's photograph. Clothing matching what he was wearing aboard the bus was also taken as evidence this morning.

Amaro will face charges in Maryland District Court of Montgomery County.
