On July 10, the board of commissioners of the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority approved the establishment of Ontario County’s transit system — County Area Transit System Inc. (CATS), as its newest subsidiary.

The action cleared the way for RGRTA to begin operating public transportation service in Ontario County beginning Aug. 1. The board also authorized a joint services agreement with Ontario County to secure operating facilities and materials, and the transfer of assets and transportation funding. The Ontario County Board of Supervisors voted on May 8, to become RGRTA’s eighth regional subsidiary.

“This is a significant milestone for RGRTA and for Ontario County residents,” said RGRTA CEO Bill Carpenter.  “We’ll build on our proven track record to deliver high quality services to the county’s public transit customers. We also now have the potential to expand and enhance public transit service across our entire regional service area — expanding access to jobs, school, health care appointments, shopping, and recreational destinations.”
