For the second time in just three years the Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) has been honored as the Employer of the Year for Desert Haven Enterprises.

AVTA received the award during a recent ceremony attended by more than 500 Desert Haven employees and business leaders who support the program’s endeavors. Desert Haven provides employment opportunities and support services for people with developmental disabilities.

AVTA has employed four workers through Desert Haven since August 2010, to provide maintenance to its grounds and facilities.

“We are proud of the employees we hired through Desert Haven,” stated Julie Austin. “All four have demonstrated a strong work ethic and positive attitude. We are very appreciative of their dedication and feel fortunate to be able to include them in the AVTA family.”

Desert Haven Enterprises (DHE) began in 1954 as a support group for parents with developmentally disabled children. Within a decade the organization had grown to become a vocational training center for adults. Since 1988, DHE has successfully served employers in the Antelope Valley by providing highly motivated, well trained, and qualified employees who are specifically selected to match the needs of the employer.

“We are very fortunate to have a quality service like Desert Haven Enterprises in our community,” state Board Chair Norm Hickling. “We may hold the title of Employee of the Year but our success is attributed directly to the staff at Desert Haven which goes the extra mile to ensure its clients are trained and supported.”
