The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County free 2014Reno/Sparks Bike map is now available online and at locations throughout Reno, Sparks and Washoe County.

The water and tear resistant maps are “easy to carry with you,” and provide information about bike lanes, paths and popular ride routes throughout the Truckee Meadows. The map also provides helpful tips and guidelines for safe bicycle commuting.

In 2012, the Truckee Meadows was designated a bicycle friendly community by the League of American Bicyclists; the first community in the state of Nevada to receive the designation. Through the RTC Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, the RTC continues working with local residents, bicycle advocates, community organizations and government agencies to enhance regional livability to make bicycling a real transportation and recreation option for everyone. “We’re happy to provide the free bike map to everyone that also includes information about bicycle safety, sharing the road with motorists and taking bikes on our buses,” said Amy Cummings, RTC director of planning.

The RTC is also developing an app for smartphones, the RTC Bike Rack app that will assist bicyclists with locating bicycle racks throughout the area. The app can also be used to identify potential locations for new bike racks. The app will be available this summer.
