Mountain Metropolitan Transit (MMT) announces a commuter challenge as part of the first annual Commute Week.

Rally your coworkers and represent your organization in some friendly competition with businesses and organizations throughout the Pikes Peak region. Commit to using an alternative mode of transportation like walking, biking, carpooling, or riding the bus at least one day during the week of May 5-9, 2014. Take lots of photos and videos and share them on social media using  #CommuteWeek

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Highest percentage of green commuters
  • Most total green miles commuted
  • Most total days of green commuting
  • Widest variety of bus routes taken
  • Highest number of people trying the bus for the first time
  • Most spirited team

The goal of Commute Week is to promote the benefits of green commuting by raising awareness of public transit and the recent addition of new bus services, community programs and available resources that help to make commuting by biking, walking, carpooling and riding local transit a sound transportation choice for citizens of Colorado Springs.

Commute Week festivities will include discounts from local businesses for transit riders throughout the week; a Try Transit Celebration which will take place on May 9 at Ivywild School with entertainment for kids, live music, drawings and giveaways; and a Commuter Challenge encouraging local employees to ban together and pledge to use alternative modes of transport to commute to work at least one day during Commute Week. Prizes will be awarded in various categories.

Local partners and sponsors of Commute Week include Ivywild School, Millibo Art Theatre, Amblicab, Beauty Bar, City Rock, Fifty Fifty Coffee House, Radiantly Raw, Sports Authority, Wendy’s, ProCycling, Criterium, Ex Lotus Photography, The Independence Center, Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments, Transit Passenger Advisory Committee and Fort Carson Morale, Welfare and Recreation.
