TRB’s Executive Director Robert E. Skinner Jr., has announced that he intends to retire after 30 years of service to the National Academies effective at the end of January 2015.

Skinner joined TRB as senior program officer in 1983. In 1986 he became the director of TRB’s Studies and Special Programs Division, and in 1994 he was appointed executive director of TRB. In this capacity, he has addressed a wide range of research and policy issues and transportation challenges facing the nation.

“I have been part of the TRB family for over 30 years, and it has been a wonderful journey, all the more so because of the terrific staff members, volunteers, and other transportation professionals with whom I have had the pleasure to work. TRB and the National Academies are great organizations and great places to work,” said Skinner.

The National Academies will be appointing a search committee to help identify Skinner's successor. Details about the search will be forthcoming.
