Getting America to Work? applauds President Obama’s vision for public transportation following the release of the Administration's FY2015 budget request.

“As we move closer to the expiration of MAP-21, the President’s commitment to a $302 billion surface transportation bill sends a strong signal  to Congress,” says Leanne Redden, Advisory Board member of Getting America to Work and acting executive director of the Regional Transportation Authority in Chicago. “Pledging $72 billion to public transit investment would generate jobs, ensure safe and reliable transit for millions, and start the process of bringing our transit systems into a state of good repair.”

The Getting America to Work coalition is working alongside the Congressional Public Transportation Caucus to educate members of Congress on the critical need for increased federal investments at a time when transit agencies across the country confront a decrease of federal funds in the face of increasing ridership.

"We urge Congress to support the President's budget request for public transportation," says Redden. "Current funding is inadequate - and we need a solution that affords transit the long term, sustainable investment it deserves."
