WURTA Response to Bill Authorizing Creation of Fox Cities RTA Passing WI Senate

Feb. 12, 2014
WURTA statement regarding the Wisconsin Senate Vote on SB 259, the Fox Cities Regional Transit Authority Bill

WURTA thanks Sen. Michael Ellis (WI-R) for introducing SB 259, Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber (WI-D) for co-sponsoring and all of the senators who voted in favor of it on February 11.

This vote gets us closer to establishing a Fox Cities RTA which would:

  • Provide a stable, predictable, dedicated funding source for transit services and remove the cost of transit from the property tax
  •  Stabilize transit services; maintain access to jobs, medical appointments, shopping, school and recreational destinations; preserve mobility for a growing senior population; meet the increasing demand for accessible transportation for the disabled; and support economic development
  • Enable municipalities to respond to diminishing funding from other sources

WURTA looks forward to the legislation progressing to the Wisconsin State Assembly for a vote.
