The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County was recognized by the American Planning Association, Nevada Chapter with the DeBoer Award for Outstanding Public Outreach and Journalism at the 41st annual conference of the 2013 Western Planner & Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association held in Lake Tahoe, Nev.

The 2035 Regional Transportation Plan is the region’s 20-year long range plan and was recently adopted by the RTC Board of Commissioners in April 2013 following an 18-month public participation process. The process entailed an extensive and comprehensive community engagement program to develop the transportation vision, policies and priorities for the Washoe County metropolitan area’s future transportation system. This includes investments for public transit and accessible roadways for an integrated, efficient transportation network.

“I am very proud of the hard work my staff accomplished for the citizens of Washoe County but also the broad community participation we had which was essential to help us develop the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan. The RTP serves as a catalyst for developing economic opportunities that sustain our valued quality of life in the Truckee Meadows,” said Lee Gibson, RTC executive director. The award criterion emphasizes successful efforts to engage the public, above and beyond the minimum state or local requirements.
