FL: ISR Transit Selected to Implement Intelligent Transportation Solution for Broward County Transit

Sept. 25, 2013
Automatic vehicle location, transit yard management and computer-aided dispatch systems will work in concert to help provide real-time passenger information via kiosks and more.

ISR Transit’s vice president of U.S. sales, Brian Frank announced Sept. 24 that the company has been awarded an $11.5 million contract by Broward County Transit (BCT) to implement an intelligent transportation system that includes automatic vehicle location, computer-aided dispatch and bus depot management.

The fully installed system will help to provide real-time passenger information via text messaging, web-enabled smart phones, and through the use of online trip planning tools along with providing mobility solutions for disabled passengers. Additionally, ISR Transit will provide real time information at 100 bus stops equipped with LCD, next-generation, solar-powered signs and at several touch screen kiosks located at key locations throughout the system.

A unique feature of this project is the addition of temperature sensors located on every bus within the system. BCT’s dispatchers will be able to monitor and control bus temperatures for maximum passenger comfort during extreme Florida heat waves.

“We are pleased to be working alongside Ubisense, the market leader in location-based smart technology,” stated Brian Frank of ISR. “This multi-faceted project is the first of its kind in the United States in that Broward County will have a 100 percent fully-automated, real-time transit yard solution that integrates parking management with driver and maintenance assignments for improved planning and fleet availability – all in real-time.”
