July 17 will mark the 40th Anniversary of the formation of South Coast Area Transit, which later went on to become Gold Coast Transit (GCT). To celebrate this special milestone, GCT hosted a commemorative ceremony on July 10, which included special speakers, memorabilia exhibit and facility tours.

GCT’s ceremony began at 11:30 a.m. with General Manager, Steven P. Brown, welcoming the crowd that included Ventura County dignitaries, former GCT staff, passengers and many more.

“I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our past, recognize our pioneers and leaders in the formation of modern day transit here in Ventura County and share GCT’s plans for the future,” Brown said.

Ventura County Supervisor and GCT’s Board Chair, John C. Zaragoza, shared his own memories as a former bus operator and thanked GCT staff for their commitment to providing efficient bus service and serving as the community connection for the last 40 years.

Two GCT buses housed an extensive collection of past and current memorabilia titled, “Looking Back on 40 Years: A Collection of Memories.” This collection will soon be featured on GCT’s website under a page with the same name. Members of the community are encouraged to submit their own memories and pictures to be added to the collection. Entries will be accepted through the end of the year.
