ATAC Roma has ordered 337 new city buses from Iveco Bus. Voith is delivering the DIWA.5 automatic transmission for all vehicles.

Developed specifically for city buses, the DIWA automatic transmission ensures economical service in the demanding start-stop traffic in the Eternal City. The first vehicles are in Rome since the end of April.

At present the ATAC fleet consists of more than 2,500 vehicles. The purchase of 206 single deckers and 131 articulated buses type Iveco Bus Citelis with Euro 5 EEV engine constitutes the largest modernization of the ATAC fleet within the last seven years. From June 50 new vehicles will be delivered every month, so that all new vehicles will be available by the end of this year.

Voith transmissions have been in service at ATAC since 1970. At the time, the first Fiat 410 city buses were fitted with Voith DIWA 501 automatic transmissions. This was the beginning of the era of automatics in Italian public transport, to which Voith is still making a significant contribution.
