Tay Yoshitani, CEO of the Port of Seattle, and Phil Washington, general manager of the Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver, were appointed to the Eno Center for Transportation’s Board of Directors on June 6. Eno Chairman Lillian Borrone made the announcement at the organization’s annual Leadership Development Conference fundraising dinner.
“Tay and Phil each brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will enhance the modal diversity of the Board. We anticipate that given their wide ranging backgrounds, they will be of great assistance as we expand our policy initiatives and our leadership development programs more widely and through new techniques,” Borrone said.
Yoshitani has been the CEO of the Port of Seattle since March of 2007. During his tenure, the Port has implemented successful air quality initiatives, invested in significant environmental remediation projects, and has instituted ambitious energy saving and recycling programs. Under his leadership, the Port has opened a new runway at Sea-Tac Airport, a new cruise facility at Smith Cove Cruise Terminal, and reopened Terminal 30 as a container facility. He previously served as the senior advisor to the National Association of Waterfront Employers and is also former chief executive of both the Maryland Port Administration and the Port of Oakland and served as deputy executive director of the Port of Los Angeles.
As RTD’s general manager, Washington is leading one of the largest transit expansion programs in North America - FasTracks. As part of this expansion Washington has overseen the first major public-private-partnership in mass transit, the Eagle P3 line to Denver International Airport. He is also the driving force behind the Workforce Initiative Now (WIN) program—a collaborative partnership between RTD, the Community College of Denver, Denver Transit Partners and the Urban League of Metropolitan Denver — which seeks to leverage existing training resources through unique workforce development opportunities, focusing its outreach on those who live in the zip codes where developments are taking place. Prior to Washington’s transportation industry experience, he had a storied 24-year military career and retired as a decorated command sergeant major.
Eno’s Board of Directors also held elections for officers. Lillian Borrone (Chairman), Mort Downey (Secretary), and David Plavin (Treasurer) were all re-elected to their positions for a one-year term.
