Mike Giugno has been named Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) managing director following the April retirement of Lloyd Grant, Jr.

Giugno has 32 years of transit experience. He has held a variety of positions including operations analyst, manager of street operations, director of transportation and director of operations. His most recent post as deputy director has been held since 2011. He began as an MCTS bus operator in 1981.

Throughout his career, Giugno has placed a priority on security. He led efforts to meet established Homeland Security requirements for transit systems, while working to enhance on-bus security programs.

A respected industry professional, Giugno is a past president and member of the board of directors of the Red Bus Association, and is a member of the American Public Transportation Association and the Summerfest Task Force. He earned a bachelor’s degree at San Diego State University and has studied Management at Marquette University.

Regarding his new role, Giugno remarked, “It is an exciting time to guide MCTS as we move forward. My primary goal is to operate the best possible public transportation system. I am proud to lead our dedicated staff as we continue to look for ways to modernize and improve the excellent service we provide.”
