NC: Columbus County Transportation Chooses First Transit for Three-Year Extension

Effective July 1, Columbus County Transportation in Whiteville, N. C. has renewed its agreement with First Transit for a variety of offerings.

Effective July 1, Columbus County Transportation in Whiteville, N.C. has renewed its agreement with First Transit for a variety of offerings.

The three-year contract provides low-cost, reliable public transportation for qualifying citizens of Columbus County who may need paratransit, fixed route or dial-a-ride services. First Transit has served the Columbus County community since 2007.

One of Columbus County’s newest and most unique routes carries local veterans to and from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville, N.C., and the Wilmington VA Clinic.

General Manager Pete Bojorquez commented, “First Transit is known for localizing its services to meet the specific needs of the community. We keep our customers at the heart of everything we do and are honored to continue providing service to the citizens of Columbus County, especially our veterans.”

First Transit manages the daily operations of Columbus County Transportation, maintains its fleet of 17 vehicles and employs the staff, which includes 16 drivers. The drivers have special training to work with children, geriatric and disabled citizens.
