Sun Tran, KGUN 9 Television, radio stations from Tucson Journal Broadcast Group and Sam Levitz Furniture formed a strong alliance on May 24 to help victims of last week’s tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.

Tucsonans contributed $7,500 in cash donations and filled four Sun Tran buses with more than 14,000 pounds of food, clothing, supplies and toys at Sam Levitz Furniture’s eastside location. Volunteers and staff from a local humanitarian relief organization World Care are processing donations and preparing them for shipment to Oklahoma.

“The response was truly overwhelming. It’s wonderful to see so many people reaching out to help,” said Sun Tran General Manager Kate Riley. “Sun Tran is honored to be part of such a caring and generous community.”

Friday’s event marked Sun Tran’s 36th Stuff the Bus event since first partnering with KGUN 9 in 2001. Stuff the Bus assists families throughout Pima County in times of need, and contributes to relief efforts organized in response to local, national and international disasters.
