E Ink Holdings and Global Display Solutions announced they have entered into a joint agreement to develop ePaper Sign Solutions.

E Ink’s ePaper technology offers a number of key benefits to users, including sunlight readability, ultra-low power consumption and thin, lightweight form factors. As the digital signage market continues to grow, these core attributes will allow new signage applications to develop to improve efficiencies in current solutions.

“There are unique applications in the digital signage market that call for ultra low power, sunlight readable displays,” said Ivano Pozza, displays business division leader. “Our partnership with E Ink will enable us to innovate and improve our existing customer’s benefits, and also allow us to address untapped market segments.”

“E Ink is excited to partner with GDS to bring the superior performance of ePaper displays to the world of digital signage,” stated Sriram Peruvemba, CMO of E Ink. “E Ink’s cutting edge technology with GDS’ industrial, technology and system integration experience will bring novel solutions to this growing market.”

E Ink and GDS have begun working together on both high and low resolution signage for indoor and outdoor usage. Initial products will be information displays designed for public transportation markets. Product roll out is targeted in the next few months.
