General Cable Corporation announced that it is expanding its Polyrad transit product offering to include EN 50264 and EN 50306 specification cables. These European cable constructions are low-smoke and halogen-free meeting strict technical requirements in terms of electrical safety and fire-performance, minimizing the risk to people and improving the overall safety on railways.

EN product standards are European-adopted transit industry specifications that are quickly becoming accepted around the globe.  General Cable's rolling stock EN cables are produced in its Willimantic, Connecticut plant; the only North American wire and cable facility that is IRIS Certified and ISO 9001:2008 Compliant. As a complete value-add solution, General Cable's plant in Piedras Negras, Mexico, also an IRIS Certified and ISO 9001:2008 Compliant facility, provides connectorized assemblies for our transit partners.

"As a significant supplier to the North American market, General Cable's broad range of transit products for rapid transit, locomotive and rolling stock applications meet the most demanding requirements for long-term performance and reliability," states Robert W. Schuermann, Vice President and General Manager Specialty Cables, General Cable North America. "Our product expansion to support EN specification emphasizes General Cable's continued commitment to the global transit industry and is in response to our valued OEM customers' needs."
