APTA Elects Castillo as Chair, Varga as Vice Chair

All newly elected members will formally assume their responsibilities Sept. 29 at next meeting of APTA Board of Directors

APTA members elected Flora M. Castillo, a board member for New Jersey Transit Corporation, Newark, NJ, as the association’s 2012-2013 chair during its virtual Annual Business Meeting and Election. She previously served as APTA vice chair.

Also elected were Peter Varga, chief executive officer, Interurban Transit Partnership (The Rapid), Grand Rapids, MI, vice chair, and Doran J. Barnes, executive director, Foothill Transit, West Covina, CA, secretary-treasurer.

All the newly elected members will formally assume their responsibilities Sept. 29 at the next meeting of the APTA Board of Directors, just prior to the 2012 APTA Annual Meeting in Seattle.

APTA members also elected four members-at-large to the APTA Executive Committee: Huelon (Hugh) Harrison, principal, Legacy Resource Group, Dallas, TX; Angela Iannuzziello, vice president, Canada national transit market sector lead, AECOM, Markham, ON; Rosa Navejar, board vice chair, Fort Worth Transportation Authority, Fort Worth, TX; and Joseph Lhota, chairman and chief executive officer, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, New York, NY.

Public transit agency representatives elected as members-at-large of the APTA Board of Directors are Michael Allegra, general manager, Utah Transit Authority, Salt Lake City, UT; Kunjan Dayal, director of procurement and contracts, Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon, Portland, OR; Rufus Francis, director of safety, Sacramento Regional Transit District, Sacramento, CA; Lee Gibson, chief executive officer, Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County, Reno, NV; Mark Huffer, general manager, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, Kansas City, MO; Darrell Johnson, deputy chief executive officer, Orange County Transportation Authority, Orange, CA; and Jeanne Krieg, chief executive officer, Eastern Contra Costa Transportation Authority, Antioch, CA.

APTA business member representatives elected to the board are Jeff Boothe, partner, Holland & Knight LLP, Washington, DC; Maryanne Roberts, senior advisor, communications and public affairs, U.S., Bombardier Transportation, Horsham, PA; and Al Engel, principal, Al Engel Consulting, Telford, PA.
