MTA Administrator Appoints Veteran State Auditor Director of Audits

Former MDOT auditor accepts management role at MTA

Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Administrator Ralign T. Wells announced the appointment of veteran auditor Channel Sumpter as Director of Audits for the Maryland Transit Administration. 

In this capacity, Sumpter is responsible for reviewing and examining all fiscal aspects for the MTA. 

"Channel Sumpter has the right blend of auditing experience to advance the MTA's vision," said Wells. "We need dedicated public servants like Channel to help the MTA continue to make strides as a leaner, more fiscally responsible agency."

For the past 13 years Sumpter served as an auditor in the state government.  She worked the last five years in the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Office of Audits as In-Charge Auditor.  While at MDOT, Sumpter earned the Rising Star Award for successfully completing the TSO Leadership Development Program.  She also worked as a Staff and Senior Auditor for the Maryland Office of Legislative Audits.   

Sumpter has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Morgan State University.  She is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the Institute for Internal Auditors.

Sumpter, a Baltimore native, enjoys traveling, exercising and spending time with family.  She currently resides in Pikesville, Maryland.
