Two New Members Join SORTA Board of Trustees

Todd Cooper and Joseph Zimmer were named to the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority’s board of trustees on Feb. 21.

Todd Cooper, a partner at the law firm Squire Sanders (www.squiresanders.com), focuses his practice on tax matters related to public finance, primarily the federal taxation aspects of municipal bonds. He also serves as bond and underwriter’s counsel on public finance transactions. He received his JD and MBA from the University of Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College. Cooper currently resides in Anderson.

Joseph Zimmer, executive secretary for the Greater Cincinnati Building & Construction Trades Council, also serves as president of the Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council and of Sheet Metal Workers Local #24. He is vice president of the Ohio State Building & Construction Trades Council. Zimmer is also a board member of the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority and the Ohio Construction Coalition (a statewide Labor Management Organization). Zimmer resides in Monfort Heights.

The Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) is governed by a 13-member volunteer citizens’ board of trustees. Seven trustees are appointed by the City of Cincinnati and six are appointed by Hamilton County. Hamilton County appoints three of its own trustees and one each representing Butler, Clermont and Warren counties.

Metro is a non-profit, tax-funded public service of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing about 17 million rides per year.
